Sensationalize much?

Federal agents say they have shut down two alleged human smuggling rings.

Investigators say the suspects would send illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America to work in Chinese restaurants around the United States. The story even equates them to being slaves. Way to diminish what being a slave means. These are all people who came to the United States by choice.  They answered an ad in order to find work. That's what illegal immigration is all about. People hire these workers for lower wages than they can hire legal residents. In order to maximize their profits, illegal immigrants often live many people to a unit and don't pay taxes on their earnings. But they do all of it willingly.

Investigators say the illegal workers worked for low wages and lived in terrible conditions. Police raided a home in Port Arthur where immigrants "were sleeping on mattresses." The horror! I don't quite follow what is so terrible about this. I sleep on a mattress. Would it have been better if they had been sleeping on a large rock?  Or maybe a bed of hot coals? The room showed in the video just looked like it was unkempt. It had walls, a roof and a window that all looked to be in good condition.  There were clothes and trash thrown everywhere, but those are conditions that are the making of the tenants and easily remedied. In fact, cleaning that room is probably very similar to the work that they were hired to do at the restaurants. So, if anything, I would think that the employers who got stuck with these people of obviously low work ethic are the ones who really got the raw deal here.

The illegal immigrants taken into custody during the raids are now in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While many of the illegal immigrants will be sent back home, others will be allowed to stay in the United States, based on certain circumstances, officials said.

  1. EVERYWHERE, USA—Federal agents say they have shut down child improsonment rings.

Investigators say suspects would plot out a course where they knew children would be and would then send a driver to get as many as three dozen into a single vehicle and bring them to a secured facility.

“The childeren are kept at these facilities, many times against their will. They are essentially prisoners,” said Brad Sheldonberg, special agent in charge of skiving investigations.

Investigators say the children were forced to follow strict rules and when noncompliant, would be sent to a segregated room where they were not even allowed to speak for entire days at a time. According to reports, they were detention centers not completely unlike those found in Auschwitz.
